Mavka — a soul of the Forest, she is nature herself, she is complex, mysterious and two-folded: tender and caring when in love, but fierce and defensive when hurt. Nevertheless, her main feature is that she always strives for peace and harmony. This is the story about the magical power of love.
Since time immemorial, the vast Ukrainian forests have harbored countless secrets and unfathomable mysteries. They are home to wondrous mythical creatures dwelling among ancient trees, faithfully guarding their sacred realm. Mavka is a soul of the Forest. Her primary mission is to protect the Forest and its sacrosanct Heart – the source of life itself – against any aggression or intrusion, including on the part of humans. Lukash is an unassuming farm boy, who has a great love of music and pours his talent into playing the flute. It is largely thanks to Lukash’s music that a miracle takes place: Mavka and Lukash meet and fall in love. From the start, their union is pitted against formidable odds, but the obstacles loom even larger once the avaricious Evilyn arrives on the scene and sets about building a sawmill at the edge of the Forest. This serves as a façade to mask her true purpose: to get a hold of the Heart of the Forest – the key to which is Mavka herself, who is already rendered vulnerable by her blossoming feelings for Lukash. To get to Mavka, Evilyn wields Lukash as her weapon, and strikes anger and fear into the hearts of the villagers. Will Mavka and Lukash be able to defend their feelings for each other? Will Mavka be able to save the forest and protect her love? Will each of the two young lovers from different worlds make the right choice?
“Mavka. The Forest Song” is a full-length animated feature produced by Ukraine-based Animagrad (FILM.UA Group). It is currently at the stage of development. The film is inspired by a classical Ukrainian poem play by Lesya Ukrainka, as well as Ukrainian authentic mythology and legends. Mavka, the Forest princess — powerful female character with unique appearance and universal appeal, and has potential to be ranked with internationally celebrated personages. The heroes and themes elaborated in the story will appeal to adults and children worldwide, but its distinct Slavic spirit and authentic charm will set it apart from anything else in the genre.

Máximo Francisco Repilado Muñoz (Siboney, 18 de noviembre de 1907 – La Habana, 14 de julio de 2003), más conocido como Compay Segundo fue un músico y compositor cubano de amplia trayectoria mundial.
Compay Segundo llegó a ser un popular compositor e intérprete, muy conocido entre los amantes de la música cubana. Comenzó tocando la guitarra, el tres cubano, el clarinete y el bongó. También tocó la tumbadora.
Compay Segundo fue el inventor del armónico, un híbrido de siete cuerdas entre la guitarra española y el tres cubano. Este instrumento pretende imitar el timbre del tres adicionando una cuerda octavada en la tercera cuerda (sol). Su afinación es igual a la guitarra. Primera cuerda mi, segunda si, tercera sol (cuerda doble octavada) y re, la, mi, afinados una octava por encima de la afinación propia de la guitarra.
Compay Segundo comenzó su carrera musical muy joven cuando compuso sus primeras canciones y en los años treinta formó parte de diversas agrupaciones artísticas de Santiago como el Cuarteto de Trovadores Orientales y el Cuarteto Hatuey. También fue vocalista del conjunto de Miguel Matamoros.
En 1948, Repilado, como voz segunda y tocador de tres funda con Lorenzo Hierrezuelo el legendario dúo Los Compadres. Lorenzo, como primer vocal se llamó Compay Primo y Repilado, como hacia de voz segunda adoptó el sobrenombre de Compay Segundo, que le acompañaría hasta el día de su muerte. Los Compadres constituyeron todo un fenómeno de popularidad que se prolongó hasta 1955 cuando Reinaldo Hierrezuelo, hermano de Lorenzo, sustituye a Compay Segundo quien a su vez forma un nuevo grupo al que bautiza como Compay Segundo y sus muchachos.
Pero su fama internacional le llegó en 1997 con su participación en el disco Buena Vista Social Club, el cual ganó varios premios Grammy. Compay Segundo apareció también en la película del mismo nombre realizada posteriormente por Wim Wenders. En abril del 2002, compartió el escenario del Palacio de los Congresos de París, Francia, con el también destacado sonero Adalberto Álvarez en un concierto homenaje a la contribución sonora de Cuba en el aniversario 20 de la fundación de Radio Latina.1
En los últimos años Compay Segundo actuó ante millones de espectadores y grabó nueve discos. No pudo cumplir su sueño de llegar a la edad a la que llegó su abuela, que fue una esclava que murió libre a la edad de 106 años.2 Falleció en La Habana debido a una insuficiencia renal con 95 años.
La canción más importante de Compay Segundo es “Chan Chan”. La versión popular de esta canción tiene un arreglo musical basado en el güiro, dándole hasta abajo realizado por Lizjaira Concepción.
