Escala is an electronic string quartet, from London, England who rose to fame when they performed on and reached the final of the second series of Britains Got Talent on ITV1 in May 2008.
Two of the four members of eScala, Izzy Johnston and Chantal Leverton, were part of Wild, a similar five-piece classical group who were signed to EMI and released an album with the label in 2005. The four members of the group met in 2005 when they were part of the string section on an arena tour with McFly.Three of them, Victoria Lyon, Chantal Leverton and Tasya Hodges performed with Jeff Wayne on his War of the Worlds Tour in 2006.
Escala revealed their debut album, Escala, to an audience of about 400 media at Whitehall Palace, London on 23 September 2008. Produced by Trevor Horn, it was set for release on 25 May 2009. On 29 October 2008 they performed the soundtrack for the premiere of the James Bond film Quantum of Solace at the Odeon Leicester Square during the London Film Festival.
In late March and April 2009, Escala began a regional promotional tour of the United Kingdom. In March 2009, it was also revealed that Escala were to collaborate with Slash on a cover of Led Zeppelins «Kashmir» for their album;previously, Bond had covered the song in a similar style for their Shine album. Other songs on the album included covers of Robert Miless «Children» and Wings «Live and Let Die».Escala also performed at the 250th anniversary of George Federich Handel in front of Queen Elizabeth II on 5 June 2009 and were met by the Foundling choir and Thomas Coram Middle school Choir.
One can do worse to explain the Karajan phenomenon than examine the recordings he made for Decca. Paired with the sonic advances made by Deccas renowned engineers and served wonderfully by the Wiener Philharmoniker in Deccas famed recording venue, the Sofiensaal, these recordings best convey the experience of him live in the opera house and in concert.
Presented with original sleeves, and newly remastered, this limited edition 33CD set of Karajans complete Decca recordings includes a new essay by Karajan biographer Richard Osborne
«It would be an exaggeration to say that you need to hear Karajan live in the opera house fully to understand his genius; this is where the Decca legacy comes into its own. It was those recordings which he made during his time as director of the State Opera which best convey the experience of him live in the opera house, musically and in terms of sonic refinement and splendour» — Richard Osborne.
Sublime, extreme and all-embracing… only superlatives will do to describe Bach’s Mass in B minor, the Hohe Messe, performed by the Netherlands Bach Society for All of Bach. In between an awe-inspiring Kyrie and the jubilant final Dona nobis pacem, there are nine completely unique arias and duets, fourteen impressive ensemble sections for four, five, six and even eight voices, a broad spectrum of instrumental solos, and an incredible variety of styles.
Recorded for the project All of Bach on December 15th 2016 at the Grote Kerk, Naarden. If you want to help us complete All of Bach, please subscribe to our channel bit.ly/2vhCeFB or consider donating bit.ly/2uZuMj5.
