Михаил подвозит неизвестных, которые оказываются грабителями. Один из преступников забывает в машине сумку с деньгами. Следствие считает Михаила соучастником. Но поскольку он ранее не был судим, его наказание не слишком сурово: домашний арест по месту регистрации. Однако Михаил впадает в отчаяние. Дело в том, что по месту его регистрации в подмосковном городке живёт жена Катя, с которой они расстались сразу после рождения дочки. Они не виделись 16 лет. В это время в Северной столице на бизнесмена Юрия Калинина совершается покушение. Найти киллеров поручают сыщику Смородину.
